How long does it take to get a Bespoke suit made?

Perfect Attire | How long does it take to get a Bespoke suit made?

Bespoke Suits are an investment. Both in terms of time and money. In this article we answer how much in terms of time taken and the processes that are involved, so you have an idea of why it takes the time that it does.

The process of creating a bespoke suit is an intricate and lengthy one. The first step in the process is choosing the fabric and designing your suit. In our case, it is mostly done in our Boutique studio in Singapore where we have over 2,000 fabrics from various mills that you can view and choose from. We will also guide you on the bunches that will be appropriate for the occasion and the budget that you are looking for.

Second step is to take measurements. The first and second step happen on Day 1.

Once the above is decided, we start work behind the scenes. Our logistic team orders your chosen fabric from the mill or the brand. The mill then packs and couriers the fabric directly to our production house. The time taken for the fabric to arrive ranges between a few days to a week depending on customs, transit time etc.

In the meantime we start Step 3 which is preparing a pattern for your measurements and crafting a muslin fit garment. The muslin fit arrives in our store within 10-12 days of your order. For international customers, the muslin fit is sent directly to your residence or address of choice.

Step 5 is Initial Fit assessment. In Singapore this is done in our store. We analyze, discuss with you and mark the necessary changes for the revision of pattern before we cut your actual chosen cloth.
International clients wear the garment and then send us three selfies (Front, side and Back pose). We then analyze your photos and discuss with you over email or online video call.

Step 6 & 7 – Revising the pattern and Cutting of actual cloth to make a Baste garment. The baste garment is a semi-finished jacket/trouser that is hand stitched loosely with long threads and has certain allowances prior to full finishing.

Step 8 – Baste Fit. In Singapore our clients undergo the baste fit under our supervision in order to refine the fit and mark areas that can be improved.

Step 9 & 10 –  Cut the actual cloth and fully finish the garment. This happens in our production house. Depending on the choice of garment and the nature of handwork involved, it can take anywhere between 36 hours to a hundred hours to complete and prepare for delivery.

Step 11 & 12 – Involve the final fit, minor touchups/alterations if required followed by the delivery.

The entire process can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks depending on how much customization was involved with your bespoke suit.

We hope this gives a good idea about the processes that are involved in making a bespoke suit. Squeezing time would only yield at the expense of skipping steps which might result in loss of quality.
